Specialist Support
At Robin Specialist Autism Services, we believe everyone deserves support that is personal, respectful, and meaningful to them. Our Specialist Support service is designed for autistic individuals and people with complex needs, including those with co-occurring mental health needs, trauma histories, or behaviours that reflect unmet needs.
Our focus is not on “managing behaviour”, but on understanding the person — their experiences, communication, sensory world, and what truly matters to them. We work alongside families and professionals to create stability, prevent crisis, and support meaningful, long-term outcomes.

Our Areas of Specialist Support
We provide tailored, neuro-affirming support in the following areas:

Complex and high-support needs

Trauma-informed care

Mental health and emotional wellbeing

Dual diagnosis (autism and co-occurring conditions)

Hoarding and environmental support

Crisis prevention and reducing hospital readmission

Safeguarding and risk-aware, rights-based practice

Partnership working with families and other specialists
Our aim is to understand the root causes of distress, reduce escalation, and build supportive environments where individuals feel safe, understood, and empowered.
Our Approach:
Neuro-affirming and Person-centred
We recognise neurodiversity and support individuals in ways that respect identity, communication style, and sensory experience. Support is shaped around strengths, needs, and meaningful outcomes, not compliance.
Trauma-Informed Practice:
We understand the impact of trauma and prioritise safety, predictability, trust, and emotional regulation. We aim to reduce distress, avoid re-traumatisation, and promote recovery and stability.
Psycho-educational Support:
We help individuals, families, and staff understand behaviour, emotional responses, sensory processing, and mental health through supportive, educational approaches that build insight and coping strategies.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) –
Happiness is an intervention:
Our PBS approach focuses on understanding what behaviours communicate and supporting individuals to develop meaningful alternatives. We focus on quality of life, emotional wellbeing, and positive engagement.
Active and Meaningful Support:
We support individuals to participate in everyday life in ways that are meaningful to them — building skills, relationships, confidence, and independence at their own pace.
Our Practice Framework:
Our work is guided by recognised, ethical, and rights-based frameworks including:

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Promoting positive behaviour, building skills and improving quality of life.

NAPPI Principles (Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention)
Using safe, respectful and non-abusive approaches to support and de-escalate distress.

Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Principles
Committed to reducing the use of restraint and restrictive interventions.

Safeguarding and Least-Restrictive Practice
Putting safety, rights and choice at the heart of everything we do, in line with CQC standards.

Trauma-Informed Care Models
Understanding the impact of trauma and creating safe, supportive and empowering environments.

Partnership Working with Multidisciplinary and Specialist Services
Working together with families, professionals and specialist services for the best possible outcomes.
These frameworks help us prioritise dignity, safety, emotional wellbeing, and long-term stability.
